Priorități pentru noua Comisie Europeană 2025: Competitivitate și bunăstare economică
Synopsis
Europe's share of the world economy has fallen from 25.8% in 2004 to 17.6% in 2024, and the study argues that the answer is not higher public spending and subsidies but the freedoms of the single market and a lighter regulatory load.
It examines the decline in exports and the structural weaknesses behind it, the barriers and fragmentation that still divide the single market, and the pressures of an ageing population, high public debt and heavy taxation. The economies of Central and Eastern Europe are treated as a model of growth whose competitive advantages the Union has yet to use properly, and fiscal sustainability is presented as something to be achieved together with deregulation rather than instead of it.
Part of the series Priorities for the New European Commission 2025.
